Reel Review: Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren Take You Through Every Emotion In The Last Five Years

The Last Five Years is currently having its run on Broadway and the musical will make you feel all the feelings in under 2 hours! The Broadway show, adapted from the movie-musical starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan, follows one couple and their journey through a failed marriage.

The story is told from the two perspectives of both Jamie and Cathy, with Jamie’s story moving forward and Cathy’s story going backwards. Jamie is a writer and Cathy is an actress. Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren, both talented in their own right, star as Jamie and Cathy on Broadway.

These performances, while originally criticised online, were absolutely phenomenal live. Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren captured the essence of their characters while managing to make it their own. Together they showed the progression of time in a saddening yet hopeful way.

Adrienne Warren is a powerhouse! Her ability to belt out these songs left the audience completely captivated and speechless. There was not a dry eye in the theater during her rendition of “Still Hurting.”

Nick Jonas, while known for his pop persona, was a great Jamie! His version was just different enough from Jeremy Jordan’s to make him stand out. From the moment he walked on the stage he delivered his character with wit, charm, and heartbreak.

The music in the show is what drove the story and the plot relied heavily on the lyrics. For those that were familiar with the original film, the story felt familiar and was understandable, so we definitely suggest watching it before heading to New York!

Be sure to see The Last Five Years on Broadway at the Hudson Theater before its run ends on June 22!
