Rejoicify! The Wicked: For Good Trailer Is Finally Here

Fans have been anxiously waiting for the first Wicked: For Good trailer, and thank Oz, we finally have it! Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande reprise their roles as Elphaba and Glinda and prove once again that they were born to play these roles. Let’s break down our favorite moments from the trailer that left us changed for good.

Toto, I Don’t Think We’re At Shiz Anymore

Part two takes place a couple years after the events of part one, where Elphaba and Galinda have been forced to go their separate ways. Elphaba is a full-blown fugitive, thanks to Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) and the Wizard’s (Jeff Goldblum) endless propaganda campaigns villainizing her. Galinda, now Glinda the Good, is a public figure and engaged to Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey).

While the original stage production only shows Fiyero and Glinda engaged, the opening scene of the trailer shows Glinda in a stunning white gown. Is it a bridal gown? Fiyero is the leader of the guards hunting for Elphaba, but what are his true intentions for finding her? While Glinda has the notoriety and power she always wanted, something —or, should we say, someone— is missing. Accepting her magical promotion meant joining the ruthless machine that turns her best friend into the Wicked Witch of the West. The Glinda and Elphie we once knew are gone.

Wait, Are Those New Songs?

Right before fans were treated to a snippet of Erivo’s rendition of “No Good Deed,” there’s a vocal rift fans can’t seem to place. This has led to online speculation that a new song might be featured in the trailer. Composer Stephen Schwartz has confirmed there are new songs for both Grande and Erivo, and the actresses played a part in creating the tunes.

Wicked: For Good will cover the events that take place after intermission in the original stage production. Arguably, part two goes by much quicker on stage than part one. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jon M. Chu added new scenes and storylines to part two. If I can get more scenes of Glinda and Elphie, and let’s be honest, dreamy Fiyero, I’ll take them!

Familiar Faces Grace The Yellow Brick Road

Social media clips announcing the trailer reunited fans with Elphie, Glinda, Madame Morrible, the Wizard, Boq (Ethan Slater), and Nessarose (Marissa Bode). However, the trailer delivered a first look at the little girl and pup that introduced us to Oz 85 years ago. Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion all appear briefly in the trailer, with a prolonged shot of the lion stealing the show. Wait, have we seen this lion before? We still don’t have any inkling of who will play Dorothy, but some fans are theorizing Grande’s famous pup, Toulouse might be playing Toto!

Because I Knew You…

This is a safe space to admit you ugly cried the second “For Good” started playing. Grande delivers the first lines of the iconic final song beautifully, and the trailer transforms into pure magic as Erivo and Grande belt out the heartwarming ballad. Whoever decided the title of part two should be Wicked: For Good deserves a huge raise! The song perfectly captures the themes of the entire story: acceptance and friendship.

I can’t wait to witness the magic that is Erivo and Grande, and be changed for good when Wicked: For Good flies into theaters November 21.
