Reel Review: Milo Manheim and Liz Gillies Take on Broadway’s Little Shop of Horrors

Last month, the Westside Theater welcomed Milo Manheim and Elizabeth Gillies to the Little Shop of Horrors family to play Seymour and Audrey, and we have to talk about it!

The musical, originally adapted from the 1960’s horror film, tells the story of Seymour and Audrey. Seymour, a nerdy botanist working at a local flower shop, discovers a new and unusual plant that leaves the town captivated. After multiple attempts to impress the beautiful Audrey and to save the struggling flower shop, Seymour comes to find that his invention has grown into a blood hungry and human eating plant.

Manheim’s portrayal of Seymour was simply showstopping! He is truly a natural at conveying the witty, funny, and nerdy aspects of Seymour’s character. It was clear to the audience that he was comfortable with this role, and it’s hard to believe that this was only his debut! From the high energy dance numbers to the emotionally heartbreaking moments; Manheim fully delivered and proved his incredible range yet again!

Elizabeth Gillies is no stranger to the stage, starring in her first Broadway show at age 15. Her representation of Audrey was so refreshing and unique. With a beautiful face and powerful voice, she had the audience completely speechless by her and Manheim’s performance of ‘Suddenly Seymour.’

From the life sized human eating plant on stage, to the incredible performances of the supporting ensemble, there is so much that went into bringing this set to life. The entire production of Little Shop of Horrors delivered the audience an evening of laughs, cries, and a catchy iconic soundtrack that will surely get stuck in your head! We promise, you won’t want to miss this trip to Skid Row!

Ultimately, it was the amazing chemistry between leads Milo Manheim and Liz Gillies, who showcased a wide range of their talents. We hope to see them together in even more future projects, but for now we highly recommend a trip to New York City to see them star in Little Shop of Horrors!
