Netflix Just Cast Role Model in a Rom-Com and I’m Supposed to Act Normal?

How are we doing, divas? This Sally is freaking out over the casting news that blessed my feed earlier today. Tucker Pillsbury, known as Role Model on stage, has been cast in Lena Dunham’s upcoming Netflix romantic comedy alongside Natalie Portman and Mark Ruffalo.

The story will follow Ally, a couples’ therapist who recently ended her decade-long relationship and is diving back into the dating world in New York City in her forties. She is then introduced to two men, one in his twenties and the other in his fifties. As she gets to know both men, she learns that there might not be a set formula for perfect sex, thus the title of the film being Good Sex.

With his charismatic personality, sharp lyricism, and and tendency to let his goofy flag fly, we are so excited to see Tucker take on a romantic role. With Pillsbury joining the cast, I can’t help but hope the film will feature some of his songs, and maybe even some new ones! The singer is currently touring his breakout album “Kansas Anymore” and is at the height of his fame. Let’s talk about some songs we hope to see in Good Sex.

Look at That Woman

This song celebrates women in all their glory! What better song to celebrate a recently single 40-year-old woman diving back into the dating world? “Look at That Woman” would be an adorable song to play over a cute montage of Portman and Pillsbury wandering through the West Village. Seriously, tell me you can’t see it so perfectly?

The Longest Goodbye

As much as I hate to say it, Tucker might not get the girl in this story. A tale as old as time is the younger guy that gets left behind. We’ve seen it in The Idea of You, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, and we might see it in this film as well. “The Longest Goodbye” showcases falling out of love and accepting that a chapter of your life is coming to a close. Whether Portman’s character falls for Ruffalo or she chooses herself, I can see this poignant song being an appropriate sendoff for Tucker’s character.

Sally, When The Wine Runs Out

Perhaps his most beloved song, “Sally When The Wine Runs Out” would be the perfect song for a romantic montage. Or who knows, maybe a meet-cute at a late night dive bar where Portman doesn’t dance but she downs her drinks (Okay, I’ll show myself out.) This song feels like you’re watching a romantic comedy thus making it the perfect fit for Tucker’s rom-com debut.

Something, Somehow, Someday

“Something, Somehow, Someday” would be the cutest song over a romantic montage for either love interest. The way it depicts two people who couldn’t be more opposite falling in love sounds like a romantic comedy we’re all ready to watch.

Some Protector

Every romantic comedy needs it: a devastating song playing as the leads get into a huge fight and break up. “Some Protector” is a song Pillsbury’s fans love to chant at his concerts. With it’s themes of lost love, failed relationships, and unfinished business, it’d be the perfect song to depict bad chapter of the story.

Blind

An oldie but a goody, “Blind” would be a great song to have featured in a romantic comedy. It perfectly captures the feelings of pure elation and that honeymoon phase when you first enter a new relationship, thus making it a great song as Portman endures her romantic journey.
