My Prayers Have Been Answered. Ted Lasso Is Coming Back for Season 4
Futbol is life! Fans have been praying to the Apple TV+ gods—and Jason Sudeikis—to come back to Richmond for another season. Finally, Sudeikis confirmed on Travis and Jason Kelce’s podcast “New Heights” that Ted Lasso will return for a fourth season. Sudeikis is confirmed to return, and gave some small yet incredibly exciting details of what to expect.
The show infamously ended after only three seasons. While it was a beautiful sendoff for Lasso, the world had fallen in love with Ted, Roy, Keeley, Jamie, Dani, Rebecca, Sam, and the entire team. No one wanted to part from this world just yet. Let’s break down what we know about the exciting return of Apple TV’s beloved show, and share what we hope to see.
Sudeikis confirmed that he will reprise his role and serve as an executive producer. He told the Kelce brothers that Ted will return to coach a women’s team. The star admitted the task at hand is a new story they’ll explore, since they’ve explored his time as coach for a men’s team. I can’t help but think the finale episode of season three hinted that Ted would return for a women’s team all along. Keeley and Rebecca were seen pondering the idea of a AFC Richmond women’s team.
Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift will return to the new season, with Goldstein confirmed to continue being a writer and executive producer for it. I hope and pray that Phil Dunster, Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt, and most of the men’s soccer team return, even if it’s just for cameos or guest starring spots. Many of the original cast members said they’d come back to Richmond in a heartbeat, so let’s pray we see them again! I would be shocked if Brendan Hunt doesn’t return, since the last time we saw Coach Beard, he was running off the plane back to Richmond to marry his crazy girlfriend. We can’t have Lasso without Beard!
I also am so excited to learn what women will be cast for the team. Ted has been a feminist icon since day one, so it will be so fun to see his dynamic leading a women’s team, and I can’t wait to see Rebecca in her girl boss glory once again. As for Ted’s love life, I was always rooting for him and Rebecca’s best friend, Sassy to get together. However, I think I caught subtle nods that Ted might’ve gotten back together with his ex wife Michelle. My only evidence is the decision to make Michelle’s new boyfriend extremely unlikeable in the final episode of season three, and that Michelle and Ted shared some longing glances in the finale. Honestly, I don’t think Ted and Michelle should get back together, but I just want sweet Coach Lasso to be happy.
This show is so much more than just a heartfelt soccer comedy. The show tackles mental health struggles, family dynamics, and the value of a strong team on and off the pitch. It’s because of these values I am absolutely over the moon that Ted and his silly, heartwarming world are coming back to our screens.
