The I Know What You Did Last Summer Sequel Trailer Has Us Hooked (Pun Intended)
We’re heading back to Southport for another bloody good time! Sorry, I’ll stop with the puns. They just kill me! Okay, now I’m done. Decades after the first film, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their roles as survivors of the infamous Southport Massacre to help a new teenage crew that’s living an eerily familiar story. I Know What You Did Last Summer stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Sarah Pidgeon, and Tyriq Withers as the new band of teens who have a horrible secret, and a horrific killer after them.
Right from the start, the trailer gave us a gruesome murder to Cline’s boyfriend as her character obliviously soaked in a bathtub upstairs. Side note, Madelyn’s hair is so reminiscent of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s iconic 90’s looks, and I love that style choice. The trailer gives audiences quick glimpses of the group all getting attacked one by one intermixed with flashbacks of a coverup that’s coming back for karma.
Freddie Prinze Jr. returns as Ray, pleading with the city to do something before innocent kids die again. I know our girl Sarah Michelle Gellar didn’t make it past the first movie, but how awesome would it be if Freddie’s real-life wife reprises her role as Helen somehow? Maybe she comes back as a terrible nightmare for Julie or Ray? Just an idea! Chase Sui Wonders’s character hunts down Julie James, the final girl from the original film, begging her for help. Chills ran down my spine when Hewitt asked Wonders, 'What did you do last summer?
Aside from some iconic role reprisals, this cast is packed with Gen-Z stars that will for sure bring audiences to the box office just like the original film did. I mean, we’re kind of getting a Prince Eric and Sarah Cameron crossover, and I couldn’t be happier. I can’t help but wonder who the final guy or girl will be, but I’d put my money on either Wonders or Cline being the final scream queen.
We are so excited for this sequel and can’t wait for this summer slasher to hit theaters on July 18.
