Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild” Music Video Proves She’s A Leading Lady

Sabrina Carpenter dropped the song of the summer and an iconic music video with it! The music video for “Manchild” feels like you’re watching a trailer for a chaotic romantic comedy, and we loved every second of it. Can we please get a Carpenter cut featuring explanations of every crazy scenario Sabrina finds herself in? Fans know Carpenter loves a good reference, and we couldn’t help but notice a few costumes and storylines that reminded us of some famous women we’ve seen before. Let’s break down some costumes and moments that reminded us of iconic leading ladies!

That’s Penny Lane, Man

As soon as Carpenter appeared on screen in that groovy fur coat and with those curly blonde locks, we thought of Almost Famous. In the film, Penny Lane deals with the ultimate man-child, Russell Hammond.

If you need us, we’ll be manifesting a song collaboration between Carpenter and Kate Hudson!

I Beg Your Parton?

It’s no secret Carpenter is a die-hard Dolly Parton fan. Her recent remix of “Please, Please, Please” featuring Parton was a massive hit, and we don’t think Sabrina’s done referencing Dolly just yet. Carpenter's admiration for the country singer is evident in her entire aesthetic, which is reminiscent of a young Dolly.

This dress and hairdo, in particular, stood out to us, further highlighting their connection. The bodycon styling and chic red glitter also brought to mind the iconic Jessica Rabbit.

I’m Taking the Dog!

Our favorite reference was this quick shot of Carpenter running away from a trailer park with an adorable puppy in tow. This scene instantly brought us back to Elle Wood’s saving Paulette’s pup in Legally Blonde.

From the rusting van to the tiny puppy and the angry cheesy guy, we could almost hear Jennifer Coolidge saying, “I’m taking the dog!” Reese Witherspoon would be so proud!

I’d Like A Cheeseburger, Large Fries, and a Cosmopolitan

No one loves a man-child like Carrie Bradshaw. Carpenter’s luscious blonde curls seem heavily Carrie-coded, and this scene in particular reminded us of an iconic moment from Sex and the City.

A stressed-out Carrie speeds to a fast food drive-through line and begs for a cheeseburger, fries, and cosmopolitan. You know, as we all do! In this scene, Carpenter sits in a car looking utterly disgusted by her latest manchild while nursing a drink. And just like that, it looks like Carrie Bradshaw has entered the chat!
